Fresh - Five Sentence Fiction #14

His gaze followed her hungrily as she moved out of the cafe, swinging the bag of food in one hand and texting someone with the other.

He followed the unsuspecting girl silently, waiting for the right moment to strike.

'Now is the time' he thought as he noticed her turning towards a deserted street and lurched forward to snatch her bag, scaring her in the process.

He didn't stop to see her reaction; he just ran with the bag which had fresh food that the girl had ordered from the cafe.

He would feel guilty later, he thought; but at that moment, all he could think was the anguish of his little boy, who had been lying hungry and sick since days, thanks to their poverty.

Fearless - Five Sentence Fiction

Finally the day had come and there was nothing she could do to put it off any longer.

She clenched her teeth and furrowed her brows in concentration as she started breathing in and out slowly!

She tried to put an act of being fearless; after all she detested being made fun of!

But no matter how much she had prepared herself, nausea swept over the moment she set her eyes on him, laying there all but unconscious, moving his legs slightly as she touched him.

She dashed to the washroom fighting nausea; after all cockroach dissection was never easy!

I am sparing myself the trip to washroom fighting nausea by not putting up an actual picture of cockroach dissection!

Rains - FSF

They stood there on the footpath facing away from each other, both of them stubborn to break the silence and speak first.

Though the night air was chill, the air between them was heated up from all the argument that took place minutes ago.

Unable to bear witness of such a situation, the heavens decided to open up and ease the tension between the two hearts.

"Do you remember?" both of them spoke at once facing each other and a smile pulled up the corners of their mouths as they remembered how it was the rains that had marked the beginning of their relationship.

They walked down the road, forgetting the argument as they savored the sweet memory.

Unfaithful Love!

"You know I love you but this can't go on anymore" she says with tears in her eyes.

"They are searching for you all over and once they find you, it won't be long before they discover my secrets" her voice broke.

Without delay, she lights the match stick and throws it on the unsuspecting victim, who lay helpless on the floor and watches him burn.

Shedding a tear or two, she walks away, without sparing a second glance to her faithful confidante.

Minutes later, the Diary is nothing but mere ash, her secrets hidden forever in its burnt pages!

Dazzled

He looked at me with twinkling eyes that displayed his longing.

The look in his eyes told he was completely dazzled and would definitely come back for me.

I was happy; finally I had found someone who loved me.

The wait seemed to end when he came back again after a week, smiling triumphantly like he has been waiting for this moment too.

"Show me the latest model Bhaiyya" he said and I watched enviously as the shopkeeper picked up the S5, while the boy eyed it with the same love he had for me, the S4, few days back!

Soul Switch - WOW #14

"Can't you do such a small thing for me? I am tired" said my dad when I declined to go drop my grandmother to bus stand. "You go dad, you are free. I have loads to read" I said, as usual making studies as my excuse. He was angry. He left without speaking a word. I didn't care. I was tired of reading whole day and didn't wish to go anywhere. He could relax when he came home but it wasn't the same for me. I had assignments to complete and exams to read for! How can he expect me to do more? I slept thinking how life is unfair.

Next morning when I woke up, I was feeling uncomfortable. My whole body was hurting and I couldn't stretch as the place seemed congested. I sat up groggily and noticed I was sleeping on the sofa. Strange! I didn't remember coming here! I walk towards the wash basin still sleepy and take my brush. As I start brushing I look into the mirror and see dad. "Good morning Dad" I said and my reflection mimicked me. I was confused! I turned around and saw that dad wasn't anywhere near and when I look back into the mirror, the bewildered eyes of dad were staring back at me. "NO!!!" I let out a shriek as realization dawned upon me! I ran to my room and see myself sleeping peacefully. "Dad! Wake up!" I shook my body feeling like an idiot with the addressing! I saw slowly as he woke up wondering why I was disturbing him at such an early hour. His face (or rather mine) described a wide range of emotions from irritation to confusion to shock to disbelief. "What the" he started looking at me and then his reflection in the mirror. "Soul exchange" I completed.

Once the initial shock wore off, his eyes twinkled with mischief as he said "Lets get on with this. I am fed up with that office anyways. You live my life today while I live yours. I am sure it will be fun" he said as he tried to go back to sleep. I couldn't believe what he just said! Well if he wanted it to be so, then I would do it. "Fine dad. Lets do it. Lets start with your first task. The book is on the desk. You better start reading as you have to attend internals today. Now you don't want your darling daughter to score less, do you?" I smiled and left the room satisfied with the chagrin I saw on his face. It's 1-0 I thought with a mental hi-5. I went back to bed thinking I would just skip his office taking sick leave. But luck wasn't with me. Dad said I had to go as his colleague was on leave and he had to complete the accounts today! I grudgingly woke up and got ready changing the score board to 1-1. "It shouldn't be difficult" I thought. Just a matter of 9 hours and I can rest for the whole day, I consoled myself as I left for his office.

Office was hell as I didn't know what to do. So many customers were flowing in asking for details which I didn't know. Manager called me in and gave me the task of completing the accounts. He said he wanted it to be done soon. I had to send a few mails which were the only tasks I completed successfully. The account book looked like a monster that would swallow me up. So many figures and so many calculations! The sun outside was burning and the office didn't have an AC either as dad worked in a village that is at 2 hour journey from our home. And my body was hurting like hell from the travel along that poor road! I cursed dad for sleeping on the sofa and made a mental note to ask him the reason later.

By the end of the day, I was totally exhausted. The accounts were still pending. I had taken a few trips to the manager's cabin and one time he even scolded me for a mistake that wasn't mine! I wanted to talk back but realized that would put dad in a difficult position. I swallowed my pride and stood there listening to him without speaking a word. When you work under someone, you have no choice than to listen to them, I learnt. I returned home by 7 pm tired from standing in the bus throughout the journey as the bus was filled with people returning to their home for weekend! "2-1 dad! I lost" I thought as I entered home. I expected to see dad's victorious face seeing my condition but the situation was different.

Dad looked as tired as me. He told waking up early and reading wasn't a good idea as he had lost that habit. Internals had took the best out of him and the lectures that followed weren't great either. He even was caught yawning and the lecturer had given him an assignment as punishment. "How could he do that! It was just a yawn" he said still not believing the absurdity of it all. It seemed that he was writing the same and now was tired of it. He wanted some rest as his head hurt from staring at the laptop whole evening. "2-2" I thought as I smiled lightly. "But dad, why were you sleeping on the sofa yesterday?" I asked. "Well it was late when I returned from bus stand. I didn't want to disturb anyone" he said and I felt my eyes turn moist. I didn't speak a word and went inside to rest, wishing this would end.

I dreaded opening my eyes next morning! I didn't want to go through my dad's routine again! I was stalling time when dad came and woke me up. I looked at him. He was... well he was himself which meant I was back in my body! The soul switch had been reversed and I was so ecstatic. I apologized to my dad for being rude a day back when he had given me some work. He waved it aside saying he understood it wasn't easy being me either. Whatever the reason was, the switch had helped us understand each other better and I respected him even more, now that I had lived his life. "Well the assignment is still incomplete" he said sheepishly. "Oh that's nothing your daughter can't handle" I replied with a wink, glad to be back to my own self!

Wishes - Five Sentence Fiction #9

"Look mother! The Wishing Flower!" cried the little girl as she ran through the field where hundreds of dandelions stood proudly under the sun, waiting to be wished upon.

She picked one among them, taking extreme care as if she was afraid to hurt them if she was too harsh and closed her eyes earnestly making a wish.

Alice stood there witnessing her daughter blow the petals after making the wish, curious as what the kid could have probably wished for.

"What did you wish for?" she asked once she opened her eyes, unable to contain her curiosity anymore, expecting to hear about wanting toys or chocolate.

"I wished to be a good girl so you don't send me to school as punishment while playing with my younger sister" answered the kid with an innocence that brought a smile on her face.

The Truth

He was tensed from morning, searching for the document throughout the house! He was sure he had kept it in his study room but they were nowhere to be seen.

As she watched her dad tensed, she realized that she could no longer hide the truth. She went forward slowly and held out the paper.

Anger surged through him as he saw the clumsy drawings across the sheet. He chided her for spoiling his document.

A tear escaped his eyes later when he saw the picture of father with “love you dad” written for him by his five year old!

Doors - Five Sentence Fiction #7

Amar dragged his feet through the streets, keeping his ear to the ground as he tried to unearth the mystery behind the explosion from the gossips of the people!

He had got a real kick in teeth when he heard about the accident and though he had been preparing himself ever since, he had a gut feeling that it wouldn't be easy to face the truth!

People were eye to eye saying "The poor couple lived alone; wonder where their son was instead of looking after them at such ripe age" and Amar felt an egg on his face hearing those accusations, which he knew he deserved!

He remembered the phone calls his old mother used to make, asking him to come back, for they longed to see his face and the excuses he used to give, for he didn't want to return to the village leaving the comforts of The States!

A tear escaped his eyes as he walked through the broken doors of the house, reminiscing the time he had spent here with them and wishing he had flew back when he still had a chance to make them happy!

Freedom - Five Sentence Fiction #6

He looked at her for a moment and turned his back on her.

For a millionth time again he felt like she didn't like being with him there; that she was crying silently.

He had hoped against hope that she would come around and learn to be happy over time but that had never happened.

With a heavy heart, he opened the door that held her captive.

A sad smile crossed his face as he saw the tiny bird fly away, as if rejoicing its new found freedom more than the safety of the golden cage.

W for Worry!!

He saw her sitting quietly and looking out of the window, staring into the oblivion.

The shock of miscarriage had been too much for her to take and ever since, she had withdrawn from the outer world.

No matter how much he tried, she wouldn't let him break through the shell she had built around her!

Worried, he looked at his doctor, seeking some solution, for he was ready to do anything to get her back to normal.

That evening, he packed their bags and set out for a vacation, hoping the change would help her to recover as said by the doctor.

V for Victorious!!

This is my 50th blog post and just like the emotion for today, I feel victorious too :) Here goes my half century post :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When she heard the applause, she realized that the endless waking hours and the hard work had finally paid off.

It hadn't been easy to manage everything at once; there were just 24 hours a day for her as it was for everyone else.

She had faced failures at many points but passion and dedication to achieve something had always driven her to pursue her dreams amidst all.

Now she stood there victorious, beaming as she received the reward for her painting, a hobby she had put her heart into.

"Just a small vacation to treat myself, then I would get back to practice again" she thought.

(The story is fiction but the painting is mine ;) I did it few days back for a competition)

COMPANION

A sly grin crossed over his cunning face as he watched his emaciated workers struggle on the construction site.

Degenerate that he was, he had never felt sorry for them nor did he ever think of providing them with any comforts of life!

Just when he was about to leave, he saw a puppy run to its master and lick his face lovingly, who provided it with the only bread that he was left with even though he hadn't had any.

Surprised he was as he witnessed this scene of pure love between a man and a creature as it was something he had never felt even for a fellow human being.

'This is what it must be like to have a true companion' he thought as he longed for one!!

RUINS - FIVE SENTENCE FICTION #2

"This is just a piece of junk dear!", said her hubby looking at the old bicycle that once belonged to her father.

All the images of her childhood started flashing before her eyes, where this bicycle, which lay in its ruins now due to the recent accident, was a prized possession to her dad.

"When we can buy a brand new two wheeler now, I don't understand why you still want to hold on to this", he said, not even once understanding how much that bicycle meant to her.

She slowly went near the it, remembering all those difficulties they had faced to buy it, all those errands they had made for selling things, by going house to house, to meet their daily requirements and all those memories which were more than mere money!

Taking in a deep breath and wiping away the tear that had escaped her eyes, she slowly said, "I wouldn't sell this, not even if someone offers me a million, because even in it ruins, this is still my most valuable treasure!"

LUCKY - FIVE SENTENCE FICTION #1

"But this is not the latest model" I cried when my dad bought me a new smartphone for I wanted the best.

How much had I wanted to be the first one to buy the latest smartphone that had just arrived in the market and flaunt it in front of my friends.

I walked out dejected wanting to be alone for sometime, to nurse my wounded heart.

That's when I saw two children, one of them handicapped, both crying out of hunger and begging for alms.

A lump formed in my throat when I realized how lucky I was to have been blessed with comforts of life and decided to overlook just the material comforts to be happy in life.
