Entrapped

My theme for this year's A to Z Challenge is A Reader's Take, where everyday I will be picking out a novel title corresponding to that day's letter and write my post based on it. To make it more challenging, I have decided to write a serial story. The novel I have selected for today is 'Entrapped'

Leave Me Never

Chapter 5

(Read the previous chapter here)

Kayra sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the cobweb that had formed in the small corner of her room. There was a house fly trapped in the center of the web, which was trying its best to escape from the trap. But maybe it knew the truth, that the struggle was useless. Slowly, its attempts to escape grew feeble until it no longer fought. It lay there, helpless, waiting for the inevitable to happen.

She turned away, no longer wishing to watch the gory scenes that would follow. In a way, the scene reminded her of her life. She was like that house fly in more ways than one. She could never forget that look on Ayaan’s face when he left. It would haunt her for the rest of her life. But did she want to go back? No!! She had come this far and she couldn't give up. She was a strong lady. She wasn't going to stop fighting nor would she succumb to the past that kept haunting her, trying to pull her inside the black void. She would stand strong and fight those prying hands that tried to pull her. She wasn't alone! No, she wasn't. The thought felt better. A faint smile crossed her lips. She hugged that little secret close to her heart and derived strength from it. With renewed energy, Kayra picked up her things and started towards her new journey, with one last glance at the place that was her home all these years.

To be continued...

About today's novel: Entrapped is a novel by Sneha Kedar. What would you do when you start hearing mysterious voices in your dreams saying "We are trapped... free us?" What if these voices keep coming back to haunt you?

There is something unusual about the 17 year old Myra Bose. Born to human parents, she is a fairy, who soon starts her new journey at Fae High - a high school for faes and fairies all over the world. This strange new life was not enough to add to Myra's troubles, she also starts getting strange dreams with mysterious voices, which she is unable to comprehend. They keep her entrapped perpetually.

P.S. This was a brilliant example of the 'show, not tell' technique.

  21. Swathi, I loved the housefly analogy that you used. So apt. Btw, I had an idea as to why she might have wanted to leave. This post makes me think I guessed correctly. I kind of knew she was not alone. However, I am wondering if we both are thinking on the same lines about what 'not alone' means. So curious to see how this story progresses.
